Policy

What we stand for.

The South East Green Party is an association of all Green Parties across the South East. We are here to support local Parties to win seats at all levels of Government, from Local Councillors to Parliament. It is our mission to push for a more environmentally and socially friendly South East.

For a fairer, greener country

Our country is facing crises around the cost of living, in our public services and in our climate and environment.

At the Green Party we have plans to improve everything that matters for families and communities.

Greens across the country do things differently, always working to offer fair, green solutions that make life better for all.

When we say “fairer and greener”, we mean it.

Fairer, Greener Homes and Housing

  • The cheapest energy bill – with the lowest carbon emissions – is the one you don’t have to pay because your home is so well-insulated that it needs little or no heating.
  • We would invest £250bn over 10 years in council-led schemes to insulate 10 million homes.
  • We would fund these council-led schemes through an emergency package of taxes on the wealthiest 1% and the biggest polluters.
  • Knowing that you have a secure home is vital for both physical and mental health.
  • Record rent rises and the threat of eviction are putting households in a precarious position during the cost of living crisis.
  • We are calling for an immediate freeze on rent rises and a ban on no-fault evictions to protect households.

Fairer, Greener Energy

  • Public ownership of the National Grid to ensure affordable and sustainable energy distribution.
  • Creation of publicly owned energy companies to regulate and lower energy prices.
  • Promote and expand onshore wind farms as a major renewable energy source.
  • Simplify planning processes to accelerate the development of onshore wind projects.
  • Implement a nationwide program to insulate homes and public buildings, improving energy efficiency.
  • Provide grants and interest-free loans for insulation upgrades, prioritizing low-income households.
  • Invest in renewable energy projects and energy efficiency measures to lower energy costs.
  • Support low-income households with financial assistance to manage energy bills.

Fairer, Greener Water

  • Our waterways are a vital habitat for wildlife and an important source of green space for residents – but sewage dumps will continue for decades to come under current government plans.
  • To protect our rivers and seas, we want water companies to be made accountable for what they are doing to end sewage discharges and clean up our waterways.
  • The only sustainable way to run vital services like water is to put people ahead of profit – that’s why we would put water back into public hands.

Fairer, Greener Transport

  • The Green Party’s “One Pound Fare To Take You There” plan would introduce a £1 single fare on all local bus routes in the country and guarantee free travel for everyone under 22.
  • The plan includes long-term funding to improve bus services and powers for councils to set routes and timetables so that buses run where they’re needed, not only where they make money.
  • We would pay for the plan from a carbon tax and by cancelling £27 billion pounds worth of national road building schemes.

Our Political Programme

Our Political Programme sets out what Greens are in politics to do: to end the system that keeps hurting the environment and all of us who rely on it – and to build a better alternative.

This Programme isn’t like other parties’ manifestos, it has not been squeezed through focus groups and stripped down according to the latest polling. Instead it has been built from policies proposed and voted on by our members, looking to secure the long term future of the places and people they love.

It’s a vision of a better world, and together we can deliver it.
