The environment matters to all of us.
It's the air that we breathe, the water we drink, our parks and countryside.
Whilst the other parties talk about protecting the environment, it is only Greens who will take the action needed. Governments must prioritise action on climate change to avoid devastating harm to the economy, society and environment. A rapid transition to a zero carbon economy will create millions of jobs and secure a safe climate for our children and grandchildren.
- Take serious action on climate change by working with other countries to ensure global temperatures do not rise beyond 2 degrees.
- Phase out fossil-fuel based energy generation and nuclear power.
- Invest in a public programme of renewable generation, flood defences and building insulation
In the 2nd quarter of 2015 the UK only generated 25.3% of its electricity from renewables. But the Government has targeted the solar and wind industries to cut their share of the energy generation market, and boosted fracking and oil drilling. This runs counter to Government commitments on cutting carbon emissions.
