Steve Dawe

Steve DaweSteve Dawe, 53, is Press Officer of Kent Green Party. He works as a Regional Liaison Officer for Kent and Medway, for Caroline Lucas, Green MEP for the South East. Steve has degrees in Politics and International Relations and has spent the last 11 years teaching in Universities. He has taught European Studies, Environmental Policy and Public Administration. Steve's main concerns are:

  • living with climate change, how we will adapt
  • adjusting to a world in which oil, coal and gas are in short supply

In Kent, massive expansion of industrial estate and warehousing land:

  • in Thanet, near Maidstone and
  • at the Kent Science Park near Sittingbourne

are major assaults on greenfield sites.

Other key issues include transport. A rising population and increasing heavy lorries is adding to air pollution in the County. This is coupled with airport expansion. We must resist these forms of development and concentrate upon refurbishing our urban areas instead.

Steve is:

  • helping to force a debate and action on empty properties throughout the County, via local media
  • pushing forward the debate about the impact of heavy goods vehicles on Kent, and the need to tax them to force a switch to rail and short-distance shipping
  • linking fuel poverty, energy efficiency and renewables in media releases and publications
  • challenging the County Council on its investments and forcing responses from it
  • challenging the County Council on its failure to use the national cycle training scheme
