Women MUST be better protected from toxic chemicals and pesticides which could be dangerous to health, according to the Green Euro-MP Caroline Lucas.
Dr Lucas, who's also the Leader of the Green Party, was speaking at an International Women's Day event at Ryde Castle on the Isle of Wight.
She told guests at the event on Sunday (March 8) "We're exposed to hazardous chemicals without being fully aware of the potential dangers to our health. In toys, food and drink containers, clothes and furniture. Shampoos, soaps, moisturisers, and toothpaste often contain parabens, which can seriously disrupt hormones."
Decisions on regulating our exposure to potentially dangerous substances are made at the European level - and Caroline Lucas believes this is where her work as an MEP can make a real difference. She talked of the urgent need to explore environmental risk factors and strengthen EU laws designed to protect human health.
