We need your help to get our first district councillor elected in rural Oxfordshire. In May the Green Party came second to the Conservatives in the Adderbury, Bloxham and Bodicate ward of Cherwell District Council. With enough effort we can win that ward: if not now, in 2018.
Spend the weekend in country villages knocking on doors, listening to voters, then stay overnight in an Oxfordshire Green Party members' house.
Recently one of the 3 Conservatives elected in May has resigned. He wanted to stay in the EU and is upset at the current direction of the Tory leaders. So there will be a by-election on 22 September. Naomi Kanetsuku is our local candidate, campaigning to save the Horton hospital and against large housing developments in rural villages. She can realistically increase her vote to become the challenger to the Conservatives in the ward, then win the ward in 2018.
Please come and help in this by-election campaign. Don't worry if you haven't knocked on doors before. There will be training in how to listen to voters, and record how they might vote, then you will go out in teams with people who have done this before. If you are thinking of joining a county council campaign in 2017, come along to this by-election to be trained by experienced Oxford canvassers and get practice listening to villagers.
Sign up for the morning or afternoon shift on either day, or all if you can make it. There will be a lunch break between 1 and 2 p.m. If you need a lift from a station to Bloxham, or overnight accomodation, contact John Haywood.
