Applicants to stand as Green Party General Election candidates need to download and complete a nomination form and a nomination statement form. Please read the conditions for standing in a General Election, in the GE2020 candidate job description and declare whether you are eligible to stand. Full details of the procedure on the members website.
Outside our full-on campaigns in Brighton Pavilion, the Isle of Wight and Oxford East, the selected candidate does not have to do much. Typically, the candidate, assisted by a local team, will:
- arrange for someone to be agent/campaign manager
- sort out the content of their Freepost leaflet
- attend as many public meetings as reasonably possible
- produce posters and arrange for delivery to members
- respond to media inquiries and possibly undertake some limited proactive media work
- respond to queries from members of the public
How much of that is necessary depends on the local conditions, so ask the returning officer. Every candidate will be asked to attend hustings.
