South East Euro-MP visits Woking to celebrate project that is leading the way in creating energy efficient homes

7 December 2012

South East Green MEP Keith Taylor visited Woking-based community project Action Surrey last week to hear about their work promoting low carbon living and reducing energy bills. Keith is keen to encourage other local authorities across South East England to follow Surrey’s example in helping residents access free assistance to make their homes warmer and cheaper to heat.

Action Surrey has been working with local Councils across Surrey to insulate people’s homes free of charge throughout 2012. Through their network of advisers and installers, Action Surrey has created jobs and improved people’s homes, saving money and reducing climate-changing carbon dioxide emissions.

From January, Action Surrey will be part of the government-backed Green Deal, a new scheme which offers people cash for energy-saving home improvements. The offer is open to all - owner occupiers, those renting privately or in social housing and landlords, both private and social, are eligible.

Keith Taylor MEP said: “Action Surrey is doing a fantastic job helping people to save money and improve their homes, while cutting climate-changing pollution. Making our homes energy efficient is a vital step towards creating a greener future.

“It was really interesting to hear how Action Surrey has worked with local people to cut emissions and fuel bills. I can now help pass on their experience and encourage other local authorities across the South East to do likewise.”
